Having been bred as a working dog in Australia, this little terrier is understandably tough and resilient.
Originally used to guard farms and to keep down rodents and other vermin, this working dog is, however, equally at home as a companion dog and possesses a sunny disposition and cheerful nature. Often affectionately referred to as the Aussie this compact dog is also known for its loyalty and intelligence, and will soon become a dedicated best friend to its owner. Its confidence also allows it to take on the role of protector and watchdog. Despite being small, they have plenty of energy and require a reasonable amount of exercise, although will do well in a town or country setting.
History
This breed evolved from native British terriers taken to Australia by settlers in the 19th century, most probably the Scottish Terrier and Skye and Cairn terriers. They were sued to guard farms and keep down rodents and other vermin.
