The Korthals Griffon is a medium-sized gundog originating in Holland, where it was developed as a multi-purpose hunt/point/retrieve breed.

Also, known as the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, this is a robust dog, with a rustic yet majestic appearance. They have a well-proportioned and muscular body, a large long head and expressive eyes.

History

The breed was developed by and takes its name from the Dutchman Edward Korthals who desired a multi-purpose hunting dog capable of working on all types of terrain and weather and able to hunt, point and retrieve different types of game. Already in possession of a hardworking and robust wirehaired pointing bitch, Edward Korthals further developed this line with inputs of various breeds, of Griffon blood and German Pointer blood. By 1870 a breed standard had been established.
