The Hamiltonstovare is a medium-large-sized scent hound from Sweden and is the result of the crossing of the English Foxhound with German Hounds.
They are handsome, well-proportioned dogs with a rectangular frame, strong straight bodies and muscular limbs. They have typical long hound ears, black noses and dark brown eyes with a calm expression. They have a short, close-fitting and weather-resistant coat in a striking black, tan and white combination. Hamiltonstovare are naturally sweet-tempered and friendly dogs, which love the company of their family, and will get on well with children, other dogs, and other household pets. They thrive on being outdoors and getting lots of exercise and make perfect running and hiking companions. However, these are hounds, and although sociable and keen to be with their owners, they also have a mind of their own and will like to do what they want! This can make them difficult to control, so extra training is recommended. Despite this, these are lovely, even-tempered dogs that make an excellent addition to the active family which they will enthusiastically accompany on endless outdoor adventures.
History
The Hamiltonstovare was developed by Count Hamilton, a hound enthusiast and founder of the Swedish Kennel Club, by crossing the English foxhound with German Hounds.
